Okay, so maybe we’re a bit biased. But if you ask us, there is absolutely nothing as wonderful as Christmas in Maine. Like a Currier & Ives card brought magically to life, your dream home in Maine opens the door to cozy holiday-season memories, many inspired by special times you enjoy at home. High on your “Enjoy at Home List” this year can be some of the all-time most beloved holiday films. Here are a few family-friendly ones we especially recommend!

It’s a Wonderful Life

Easily one of the most cherished holiday films of all time, this 1946 classic features Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey, a small-town man who has given up his personal dreams to help others, and whose despair on Christmas Eve brings about the intervention of his guardian angel, Clarence. As the story unfolds, Clarence shows George how deeply he has touched the lives of others—and exactly how his small town would have been much less wonderful had he never been born. Rated PG.

Where to watch it: Stream on Amazon Prime; Rent on iTunes, VUDU, and YouTube.

Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol

The first-ever animated Christmas special produced especially for TV, this dearly-loved version of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol features Broadway-caliber songs and a sterling cast of some of the 1960s most beloved stars. Jim Backus provides the voice of Mr. Magoo, with additional voices provided by Morey Amsterdam, Paul Frees, Joan Gardner, and Jack Cassidy. Rated G.

Where to watch it: Rent or purchase on Vudu, Google Play, Amazon Instant Video, and iTunes.

A Christmas Story

We triple-dog-dare you not to like this! Chronicling a young boy’s desperate wish for a BB gun for Christmas, this holiday film is based on Jean Shepherd’s amusing tale of growing up during the Great Depression. Special Note: Because the story is told through a series of vignettes, it’s easy to break up over a couple of nights for younger children. Rated PG.

Where to watch it: Rent on Amazon, iTunes, VUDU, and YouTube.

Miracle on 34th Street

Generations of Americans have loved this fanciful story of Kris Kringle and the jury trial he endures to prove he’s the real deal. Featuring a very young Natalie Wood as Susan—the girl who needs to believe—this holiday film is so captivating you’ll likely become a believer yourself. Miracle on 34th Street might be classified as a “great courtroom drama,” but, if so, it will likely be the most endearing one you’ll ever watch. Rated G.

Where to watch it: Stream on Disney+; Rent on Amazon, iTunes, VUDU, and YouTube.
