One of the million GREAT things about living in the Lewiston-Auburn area is all the amazing ski resorts it puts you near. Last year we mentioned 5 of the best in or near Lewiston-Auburn. But what’s the situation now? How have these great ski resorts been impacted by the pandemic? Here is your ski-related COVID update!

Lost Valley

Located right here in Auburn and billed as “A Mountain of Fun!” This long-time favorite ski resort recently opened with numerous COVID-related requirements in place. Key requirements include abiding by Maine’s statewide mask mandate and travel protocols; bringing a brown-bag lunch to be eaten in your vehicle; and generally being prepared to be outside most of the time. (The lodge is limited to 100 people at any one time.) You’ll find the complete list of Lost Valley COVID-related requirements here.

Sunday River Ski Resort

One of Maine’s most internationally popular ski resorts, Sunday River covers a whopping 750 acres of open terrain in Newry, Maine. This year you can enjoy any of its 135 magnificent trails by making sure you abide by Sunday River Ski Resort’s COVID protocols. This very helpful “What to Expect This Winter” video will show you, in just 76 seconds, how to safely enjoy your Sunday River experience.

Mt. Abram Family Resort

A 45-minute drive to Greenwood, Maine will deliver you to this ski resort’s 36 great trails—all named after characters from the Rocky & Bullwinkle cartoon!  Mt. Abram requires that you abide by COVID protocols so you can come enjoy what they call “Pandemic Powder Days.” Their complete list of COVID-related protocols is here.

Shawnee Peak

Located at the north end of Bridgton’s Pleasant Mountain, Shawnee Peak is the oldest major ski resort in Maine. Sprawling over 245 scenic acres, the Peak asks skiers to observe social distancing by buying tickets in advance, to always wear a mask when at the peak, and to otherwise abide by their carefully-thought-through list of COVID-related protocols, which you’ll find here.

Black Mountain of Maine

Famous for its Nordic skiing facilities, Black Mountain in Rumford dishes up more than 600 scenic acres for avid skiers. Like the other ski resorts listed above, it has put together a COVID health and safety plan in accordance with Maine CDC guidelines, and asks that you visit this page for up-to-date guidance.
