How Efficiency Maine Powerfully Benefits Maine Homeowners

As prices for everything go up-up-up, what can Maine homeowners do to reduce energy costs and thus save BIG money long-term? Answer: Learn about Efficiency Maine and benefit from the incredible array of rebates and financial incentives it offers for making your home more energy-efficient. Let’s get started!

Saving Money … Saving the Planet

For decades, Mainers have understood that conservation of resources and energy-efficiency are two of our best—and most money-saving—strategies for reducing energy costs in our residential, commercial, and industrial facilities. With that in mind, in 2009 the state passed the Efficiency Maine Trust Act. This created the Efficiency Maine Trust, the state’s independent administrator for programs to improve the efficiency of energy use and reduce greenhouse gasses. Today, Efficiency Maine offers money- and energy-saving programs for Maine homeowners related to:

Preparing for Winter

Two of the most crucial steps you can take—right now, as you prepare for winter—are to take advantage of Efficiency Maine’s programs regarding weatherization and high-efficiency heat pumps. Enhancing your home’s insulation, for example, could make you eligible for rebates up to $9,000.

And installing a state-of-the-art, high-efficiency heat pump can benefit you and your wallet for years to come. In 2019, the state legislature codified Maine’s goal of installing 100,000 new high-efficiency heat pumps in Maine homes and businesses by 2025.  Soon thereafter, in early 2020, Efficiency Maine began offering a new array of rebates designed to benefit individual Maine homeowners and businesses that install high-performance heat pumps.

Among these rebates is the so-called “Tier 2 Rebate,” offered to those installing the most advanced heat pumps. This rebate doubles from $500 to $1,000 for the first indoor unit installed, and from $250 to $500 for the second unit. As in previous years, heat pumps meeting the so-called Tier 1 rebate standards will continue to be eligible for a $500 rebate for the first indoor unit, and $250 for a second indoor or outdoor unit.

Additional Resources for Maine Homeowners & Businesses

In addition to the programs and benefits mentioned above, Efficiency Maine offers many additional resources for Maine homeowners and businesses.
