No, it’s not the elected official you’re thinking of. We’re talking about William (Bill) Turner, founder and owner of Maine Source. His white house is his new office, located at 314 Center Street in Auburn. It may not be our nation’s capital, but it’s still pretty impressive. (To get there, drive behind the gray building that’s across the street from the NAPA Parts Store.)
After 30+ years in real estate, Turner knows a thing or two about the business. He’s well aware that buying a house is a big commitment and that first time buyers will have lots of questions about costs and financing. When it comes to answering those questions, Bill isn’t shy about sharing his expertise. In fact, he makes a point of it.
Turner explained his reasons in an article released by the Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council.
“We have a lot of customers that want to buy their first home but end up leaving the bank just as confused as when they first walked in,” said Turner. “We take the time to educate new buyers about getting a loan and being a homeowner for a stress-free home buying experience. We’re not in the business of making things complicated,” he adds. “The banks have already done an excellent job of doing that. We’re in the business of making home buying easy.”
There’s another good reason to take the time to educate first-time buyers; they may not be familiar with all of their financing options. Lower income individuals who want to build or buy in a rural area and are not able to obtain a bank loan could qualify for a USDA Rural Development loan program. For Information about this and other USDA programs, go to www.rurdev.usda.gov or talk to any of the knowledgeable Realtors at the Maine Source office.
