Like making a great bowl of chowder, creating a kid-friendly town requires the exact right ingredients. Two of them—especially in this day and age—are “a safe place to live” and “lots of fun, stimulating things to do.” If you want to raise your family in THAT kind of attractive environment, Lewiston-Auburn has got you covered! Here’s how …

A Safe Place for Your Kids

For decades, Maine has consistently ranked as one of the safest states in the U.S. And we’re not talking “Top 10.” We’re talking “Top 2.” In fact, World Population Review has just ranked Maine the #2 safest state in America. That means you—as a parent or grandparent—enjoy the benefits of a safe, secure area in which to share the blessings of time spent with your children or grandchildren. And how can you spend some of that precious time in Lewiston-Auburn? By adding a few of the following activities to your “Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Lewiston-Auburn”!

Explore the Androscoggin Riverwalk

The Androscoggin Riverwalk—technically, the Androscoggin Brunswick-Topsham Riverwalk—is a lovely way to enjoy your kids’ company as you bask in Maine’s outdoor beauty. The 1.25 mile in-town recreational loop offers stunning views of the Androscoggin River, along with a variety of plant and animal life.

Tour the Historic Bates Mill Complex

The redeveloped Bates Mill Complex—once home to a major bedspread manufacturing operation—has been crucial in spearheading Lewiston-Auburn’s boon in growth.  Now host to more than 2,000 people who live there or work at its banks, restaurants, offices, and other organizations, the complex provides lots of stimulating interaction opportunities for kids.

Visit the Edward Little House

Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, the Edward Little House is one of Auburn’s most historic homes. Offering tours and programs for kids, the home was built by Edward Little in 1827. Mr. Little, for whom a local high school is also named, was one of the area’s wealthiest landowners and greatest philanthropic benefactors. He is often referred to as “the Father of Lewiston-Auburn.”

Enjoy a Concert or Other Performance at The Franco Center
Each year The Franco Center hosts a wide variety of concerts and other cultural events that are perfect for your entire family. You and your favorite kids will find there everything from symphonic concerts from the Midcoast Symphony Orchestra … to singer/guitarist performances by popular artists such as Lenny Breau and the Cobblestones … to Dance Center student recitals, and more.
